Description
A hearty and flavorful Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet dish that combines tender cabbage with seasoned ground beef and tomatoes, cooked to perfection in one pan for a quick and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 small cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup onions, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onions are softened and aromatic.
- Add Spices: Stir in cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and bouillon powder. Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors and blend well with the beef mixture.
- Add Tomatoes and Cabbage: Pour in the diced tomatoes along with their juices, then add the chopped cabbage. Stir everything well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Simmer Covered: Cover the skillet and cook over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors meld together beautifully.
- Season and Reduce Liquid: Season the dish with salt to your taste. Cook uncovered for an additional 5 minutes to reduce excess liquid and concentrate the flavors.
- Serve: Serve the hot skillet dish immediately for a comforting, nutritious meal.
Notes
- Drain the excess fat after browning the beef for a leaner dish.
- If you prefer spicier food, add more cayenne pepper or some chili flakes.
- You can substitute bouillon powder with beef or vegetable broth for extra richness.
- For a low-carb variant, serve this skillet dish on cauliflower rice or as is without any sides.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat nicely on the stovetop or microwave.
