Description

These Cheeseburger Pockets are a delicious handheld dinner featuring savory ground beef seasoned with classic condiments and melted cheddar cheese, all wrapped in flaky pizza or crescent roll dough. Perfect for a quick family meal or kid-friendly lunch, these pockets combine the flavors of a cheeseburger in a portable, easy-to-eat form.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Dough and Topping

  • 1 (13.8 oz) tube refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional sesame seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat to keep the pockets from being greasy.
  3. Season the Beef: Stir in salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish if using. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld, then remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  4. Add Cheese: Mix the shredded cheddar cheese into the cooled beef mixture so it gets evenly distributed inside the pockets.
  5. Prepare Dough: Roll out the refrigerated dough on a clean surface and cut it into 6 equal rectangles for sizing the pockets uniformly.
  6. Assemble Pockets: Place a generous spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of each dough rectangle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a pocket and seal the edges securely with a fork to prevent leakage during baking.
  7. Apply Egg Wash and Add Toppings: Transfer the pockets to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden, shiny finish once baked. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if you like added texture and flavor.
  8. Bake: Bake the pockets in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the cheeseburger pockets to cool slightly before serving to ensure the filling sets and avoids burns.

Notes

  • Customize by adding chopped pickles, onions, or a slice of American cheese inside for more flavor depth.
  • These pockets freeze well—simply reheat them in the oven or an air fryer for convenience.
