Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Mixture
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 4 oz goat cheese, softened (or more cream cheese for a milder flavor)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup dried cranberries, chopped
- ¼ cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Combine Cheeses: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and goat cheese (or more cream cheese). Beat with a hand mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy to ensure an even texture.
- Add Flavorings: Incorporate the orange zest, fresh orange juice, honey, and vanilla extract into the cheese mixture. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined, infusing the cheese log with citrus and sweet notes.
- Fold in Cranberries and Nuts: Stir in the chopped dried cranberries and, if using, the toasted pecans or walnuts. These add texture and bursts of sweet-tart flavor throughout the cheese.
- Shape the Cheese Log: Lay a large piece of plastic wrap on a flat surface. Spoon the cheese mixture onto the center of the wrap. Using the plastic wrap, carefully shape the mixture into a log. Twist the ends of the wrap tightly to seal it securely.
- Chill to Firm Up: Refrigerate the wrapped cheese log for at least 2 to 3 hours, allowing it to firm up and for flavors to meld together.
- Prepare for Serving: Before serving, optionally unwrap the cheese log and roll it in additional chopped cranberries, toasted nuts, and fresh parsley to add extra texture and a festive garnish.
- Serve: Serve the cheese log with an assortment of crackers, sliced baguette, or fresh vegetables. Enjoy this flavorful and elegant appetizer at your next gathering.
Notes
- For a milder flavor, substitute all goat cheese with cream cheese.
- Use toasted pecans or walnuts for added crunch—toast nuts lightly in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
- Allow the cheese log to chill overnight for even better flavor development.
- Can be prepared a day in advance, saving time on the day of your event.
- Store any leftovers wrapped tightly in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- To make it vegan, substitute with vegan cream cheese and omit honey or use a plant-based sweetener.
